Dr Barlow has a special interest in asthma, airways disease, chronic cough, respiratory infection, allergy, sleep medicine and lung cancer. He has sub-speciality interests in complex bronchoscopic biopsy, EBUS, EUS, thoracic ultrasound, pleural procedures and interventional bronchoscopy.

Dr Barlow is the clinical Lead for Respiratory Medicine at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust,  Clinical Director for Cancer, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and the Chairman of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Lung Cancer NCG. Dr Barlow has recently served a long tenure as a Board Director of Medicine, at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS.

He is also esteemed to be recognised by NHS England as founder of the first & largest Covid virtual ward. Dr Barlow is Chief Medical Officer for Virtue.

  • His areas of interest are:

    • Interventional bronchoscopy including EBUS and mediastinal EUS;

    • Thoracic Ultrasound;

    • Non-Invasive Ventilation.

    • As a specialist in Respiratory Medicine his clinical interests include complex airway disease, respiratory failure, sleep medicine, lung cancer and respiratory allergies. He is also the main investigator in the LuCID breath study in Watford and this has provided insights into future lung cancer screening.

      He is highly dedicated in his clinical work and research and he uses the latest cutting-edge technologies, in order to improve the understanding and treatment of a patient's lung condition. He also strongly believes in providing his patients with a patient-specific approach so the best treatments can be applied for maximal treatment success.

  • Dr Barlow qualified from the University of Sheffield Medical School in 1996 with an Honours degree in Medicine after completing a three year BSc Hons degree in Pharmacology at Manchester University. In 2005 Dr Barlow was awarded a Masters (in Respiratory Medicine) from Imperial College London.
